A taxidermy magpie skin that was not suitable for full taxidermy. Instead of throwing it away I have made it into a dead mount/study skin. To me, it seems like a good way to re-purpose a skin unsuitable for mounting. I love the way this dead mount is still able to show off the variation and colours of the feathers. I believe that even though this bird wasn’t able to be mounted in the traditional fashion, this doesn’t take away from his beauty. In my opinion there is still a place for this bird and someone will adore him as he is!
This bird has been designed to lay flat on its back so the natural shape of the back has been flattened as it has dried. This piece is unmovable. Study skins usually do not have eyes, but I have used creative license to mount this as I feel appropriate and to match my intended aesthetic - this is why the title says ‘dead mount/study skin’. Please see all photographs closely and if you have any questions at all just email me. I will not accept refunds/returns on this premise.
This would be a great prop or accessory for a photoshoot or film. Alternatively as an addition to a curio cabinet or specimen collection drawer.
